It Begins! Flavor. Aroma. Texture. From A- Z: The Principles of Cooking with F.A.T.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Today is January 1, 2012.  The first day of the first month in this New Year also falls on the first day of the week, Sunday.  It’s like getting a fresh start all the way around.  On this day, I will begin eating my way through the alphabet of ingredients, and replacing the majority of fat in my diet with Flavor.  Aroma. Texture. (F.A.T.)  After an inspiring, encouraging, and reassuring service at church today, I am primed and ready to officially begin my quest to lose weight and achieve and maintain a healthy lifestyle.  As we sang today in church, “Sometimes the road gets rough and the going gets tough, and the hills are hard to climb. I started out a long time ago, and there is no doubt in my mind:  I’ve decided to make Jesus my choice.”  I guess the Lord knew I needed to hear that song today.  I know I have a very long, rough road ahead of me.  But, because Jesus is my choice, I know I’m more than a conqueror, and through His help I know I’ll be able to do this.  In fact, I’m already proclaiming myself to be victorious.

For dinner tonight, I had a little bit (about half a cup) of my dad’s black eyed peas and ham hocks for good luck.  My family doesn’t actually believe eating black eyed peas on the first day of a new year brings you good luck, but it is a tasty tradition.  I’d planned to tell you my official starting weight, but I’m not sure what that is; my scale decided to commit suicide.  I just got the thing a week or two ago in anticipation of this very day.  But, I got on the scale and the numbers went backwards.  My goal is to lose weight, but I’m not going to lose it that fast.  LOL I have a good idea of how much I weigh because I cheated and weighed myself on a different scale last week.  It’s true that I did indulge a little bit during my last supper of fattening junk food.  But, I’m no where near close to the max capacity of this scale.  I spent 10 minutes trying to get a weight and nada.  I reset it, and it still didn’t work right.  According to the scale’s erratic fluctuations and multiple weights displayed, I weigh somewhere between 128 pounds and 402 pounds…like I really needed a scale to tell me that.  Hopefully, tomorrow I’ll be able to get a new scale so I can get my starting weight.

In a few minutes, I will reveal what my feature ingredient is for week one.  But, before I do…

Note:  I AM NOT a doctor, dietician, nurse practitioner, nurse, mid-wife, medicine woman or witch doctor.  I am in no way a medical professional.  Any information I share about diet and or exercise is solely based upon my own experiences and what works for me.  You should always see a health care professional before starting any diet or exercise routine.  Also, I’m not a chef, line cook, or food stylist, and have absolutely no culinary training.  So, don’t get mad at me if you don’t like my recipes or the way I plate and photograph my food…I’m not a photographer either. LOL I’m just a woman who loves to cook and eat, and is using this blog to share some of my experiences on my journey to eating more healthily and losing weight.  In other words, don’t blame me for anything!  J
